TOUR DE CORSE 2006

Tour of Corsica, October 2006

From October 12 to 23 I made a bicycle tour of Corsica (Corse in French), a province of France in the Mediterranean Sea that is a one-hour plane journey southeast of Marseille. My ride of about 400 km (250 mile) began at Bastia in the northeast of Corsica and I rode an anticlockwise route through St. Florent on the northwest coast, then around the coast to Ile Rousse, over to the hills to Le Fango, around the coast to Piana, down to Ajaccio, then over to Propriano. These are six places where I stayed overnight and are shown on the map as blue dots, while the route is indicated in orange. After a rest day in Propriano I used the following two rainy days to go by bus back to Ajaccio and up to Corte, as shown in mauve. From Corte I made a day trip up the Gorges of the Restonica. The following day I biked north to stay overnight at Francardo, then on the last day back to Bastia.
